Since dogs sweat through their paws and pant, they don\u2019t cool down as easily as humans, and this can lead to a lack of energy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ll want to be on the lookout for the following, as they could be indicators of heatstroke or heat exhaustion.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Behavior red flags:<\/span><\/i><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Decreased energy level for a sustained period<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Decreased appetite<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Labored, shallow Summer<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keeping your dog active, both mentally and physically, throughout the year is, of course, extremely important. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>But depending on where you live, it affects the amount of outdoor time your dog can and should have in the hotter months.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, regardless of where that is, it\u2019s extremely important to be mindful of the time of day you bring your dog on their daily walk or trip to the dog park. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It's always best to bookend your days with these excursions, rather than taking them right in the middle of the day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you live in a city or neighborhood where you walk your dog on sidewalks, streets, or <a href=\"https:\/\/topdogtips.com\/top-11-actionable-tips-to-protect-dog-paws-on-hot-pavement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">any other type of paved surface<\/a>, you want to ensure that their exercise is timed before the tar has had a chance to heat up or after it has cooled. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Get creative and look for grassy or sandy areas for them to play, or bring them to any local <a href=\"https:\/\/topdogtips.com\/best-dog-friendly-beaches-in-america\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dog-friendly swimming areas<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And let's face it, some serious fun can always be made with a hose!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, providing them with <a href=\"https:\/\/topdogtips.com\/the-importance-of-mental-stimulation-for-your-dog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mental stimulation<\/a> can be a great way to keep them happy and engaged.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brain games such as Hide and Seek (toys, treats), dog puzzles (tons of options out there!), or just teaching your dog a new trick (yes, you can!) are great ways to not only keep your dog from suffering boredom, but it\u2019s truly exceptional bonding time.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stay Diseases<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We happen to be huge fans of summer; there are so many great outdoor activities to take part in, such as frisbee, hiking, dog parks, the beach, and long walks in new and exciting places.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most of the time, these adventures go off without a hitch, except for the parasites and potential diseases that often accompany them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the top of the list, our friends, <a href=\"https:\/\/topdogtips.com\/what-does-a-tick-look-like-on-a-dog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ticks<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ticks are not fun. Think chicken (not rolling in BBQ sauce), beef, pork, and fish, as a \u201cYes\u201d for your dog, a<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">long with most fruits and vegetables. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be mindful of avoiding pitted foods like avocados, cherries, and absolutely no grapes, raisins, onions, grapefruit, or garlic. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ll also want to avoid the traditional sides at a cookout, such as pasta salad, potato salad, chips of any sort, and sugary sweets. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A great rule of thumb when thinking about what you can and can\u2019t feed your dog is: \u201cIs the food the ingredient?\u201d If the answer is yes, you\u2019re off to a good start.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just say \u201cNo!\u201d to These Foods:<\/span><\/i><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grapes, Raisins<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plums<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Avocado<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Onion<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Garlic<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bone-in Chicken<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grapefruit\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/topdogtips.com\/what-human-food-can-dogs-eat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">What Human Food Can Dogs Eat?<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<h3><b>4th of July and Fireworks<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Summer season is when most dogs go missing, especially during the\u00a0<span style=\"box-sizing: border-box;
